A line up of recyclable characters with smiling faces peeping out from behind a box: a perfume bottle, deodorant can, toilet roll tube, spray bottle and yoghurt pot. A headline above them reads: Rescue Me! Recycle

Recycle at home

Recycle out of home

Yes, medicines can be recycled at some out of home recycling points - find out more below.

How to recycle medicines

  • Unopened, unused and out-of-date medicines should be returned to pharmacies for disposal.

  • The cardboard box that houses the blister packs can be recycled, as can any paper inserts.

  • Inhalers should not be put in the waste bin as they contain gases which are harmful to the environment. Instead they can be recycled at any pharmacy.

  • Do not flush medicines down the toilet.

Good to know

Blister packs are accepted at participating Superdrug stores as part of the UK's first medicine packet recycling programme.
