We've prepared a ready-made Assembly Powerpoint for you to use to introduce the topic to a year group or key stage, or even with the whole school. It raises awareness of recycling, explains why it matters and demonstrates that individual actions really do add up.
Access the Assembly Powerpoint, for free, on the WRAP Resource Library.
The Assembly Powerpoint will get students thinking. Use it before exploring recycling with each class using the lessons as part of a School Project to increase recycling around your school, or as a stand-alone way to highlight the importance of recycling.
Delivering the Assembly
The Assembly Powerpoint slides include detailed Presenter's notes. These give you all the information you need, so there’s no need for research or planning beforehand.
To add further visual impact, use a bag of clean waste packaging as a prop. This can be based around waste from a home or your school. Include a good variety of recyclable paper, plastic, steel, aluminium and glass items. As you give your assembly, use the materials in the bag (make sure they are clean) to help students to think about the packaging and other materials that they use each day, and what they do with them.
Put simply, the goal is to reduce the contents of any such bag as much as possible. What actions could students and teachers take to achieve this?
